So my 4x4 and 4 low light will come on, the module clicks and activates, an you can hear the motor work to engage the system. 4x4 high works but 4 low does not work. Not sure where to go with it considering it sounds like everything is working and engaging.... Any ideas?

How are you going into 4LO? With a manual, complete stop, Trans in neutral, brakes applied and clutch in was how I always did it.

Cant tell you how in an automatic...my auto F150 had a manual T case but i always put it in neutral so I think its the same. Trans in neutral or park with the brakes applied.

the 4 low light only turns on when i am parked with the clutch in.

Are you sure the front wheels are pulling in 4HI? If so, that's good--it means your hubs are engaging.

Are you saying that 4LO is just like 4HI, i.e. no huge gear reduction? If so, sounds like your electric shift motor and worm gear drive are not rotating the selector shaft the many extra degrees (~180deg) needed to reach the 4LO position...

... Great write-up on the issue right here on this site:

Luckily the whole shift motor assembly is fairly cheap as a re-man (or junkyard pull), and straightforward to swap out... except for that one ground wire ya gotta pluck out from the plug with a dental pick or awl or a stiff wire or...

Thats not a ground. Thats power to the electro magnet in the case.

Plum Crazy, you are Thee Mondo Stud God of the M5OD-R1... can you hook me up with some "pirate" gears so I don't have to re-gear, re-shim, re-preload, etc. BOTH of my diffs? :icon_thumby: Trade ya a Hurst shifter err sumpthin'...

You're probably correct... I will be under there with a DVM later this week, reverse-engineering the whole klugey Rube Goldberg GEM bullshyt scheme... I especially like how 4WD malfunctions affect my dome light operation w.r.t. door-open... ... no doubt an uber-cheap Taiwanese 4-bit microcontroller, lost in the loop of some badly/non-engineered firmware.

PS: "Plum Crazy" was a Dodge/MOPAR exterior paint color back in the muscle car days... a deep metallic purple, IIRC... which fades wickedly in the So-Fla sun, lol.

You looking for some M5OD gears that are non-4.0 I am assuming? I think I have one last set 2.3 gears sitting in my old 4.0 case.

I have enough parts to put together a whole 4.0/2.3 4x4 trans if thats what you are looking for.

PM and let me know what your interested in. Just the 2.3 gears, 2.3 gears assembled on a 4x4 output, or a whole trans?

My old boss had a "PlumCrazy" Dart.lol I thought it was a good username when I joined TRS since I was driving my purple Ranger. (Which Ford called "Burnt Cranberry")

Good guess... but I have a 3.0L (Vulcan), and I'm looking for some LOW gears, like from a 1.4L riding mower, lol... i.e. I have 3.73 ratio diffs, and want the equivalent final ratios of 4.56 diffs, by mod'ing only the tranny w/ new gears and countershaft--don't think such gears exist, hence the terms "pirate", "black market", "nudge-nudge, wink-wink, hope the guys at Yukon Gear don't find out"... Just FANTASIZING out loud... hoping for an EASY way to re-gear. :icon_twisted:
