got an 89 ranger x cab, an i want to put a 350sbc in it just because it is available. it is 4x4, the question is do they make an adapter to still use the stock transfer case. The front diff is on the pass side on chevys. Can someone help me out.

really no one knows. i guess i will go with an s10

Advance adaptor makes a lot of adaptors for swaps.

I think someone mentioned at one point using a later model GM t-case that was a driver side drop, but I have never really done much with anything GM.

cammeddrz has a SBC 4x4 swap, you might bug him.

that someone was me.

a lot of early 90's s-10s came with a driver drop t-case. and and some full-size trucks as well. they're out there you just have to know what you are looking for, what tranny do you want to run?

also i avoided this problem entirely by going a different direction which is using a chevy front axle too. but 350 swaps are my specialty

Actually, I think it was Will a couple years ago. I haven't seen him on here for quite awhile though.

oh, well i am always saying it around here....... either way it is true

you can use the tail section of the 700 r 4 adapter to hook up the ranger case.

but a fullsize gm setup is much better for simplicty. the 241 is a decent case and the 231 in the s series is good too. the trans and t case from the s series will be the best fit.

'88 and newer 1/2 and 3/4 ton GM trucks with the IFS will have a driver side drop t-case. What transmission do you plan to use?

exactly, and you can find a married transmission/t-case combo for a couple hundred bucks.

i am working on swapping a 350 into an sas'ed toyota right now. my buddy got a trans/t-case, and both driveshafts (that will be modified to fit the 'yota axles) for $200

if you get a push-button t-case i advise grabbing the panel from the dash board with the selector buttons

when i said 700 r 4 adapter i was referring to the kit that swaps a 60 degree 700 into a 4.0 ranger. it was available at A.A.

yeah i didn't know that was still in production. and even if it is that adaptor is like $500, then you'd still need to buy the tranny, and it works best with the engine a little further back so you'd be fabbing trans mounts, and modifying both driveshafts anyway
