I have a 92 Ranger with push button 4wd and manual hubs. The problem I'm having is when I press the 4wd button, the indicator light doesn't light up and it does not go into 4wd. I took the front of the dash off to check if the connector was attached to the buttons and it was. Any ideas?

there are several electrical daemons in the push button 4x4 you can start buy checking the 4x4 module it should be behind your seat on the driver side it is the black box with 3 wiring harness coming from it. remove the two that come from the dash and leave the one that run through the floor connected. push the red button on top is will cycle and if the red light beside the button flashed the module is fine(by the way when you push the dash button do you hear a clicking this should be the module cycling) if solid you have a problem. next you can check the 4x4 button. a quick ride to the junk yard can help pop the button from the dash and try one of theres if it fixes the problem buy it. the most common though would be the shift motor there is a write up in the tech library on how to clean the motor.

This has been covered many many times, do a search or look in the tech library.
