Ok guys so Im new to rangers & in search of a clean 2WD truck here in colorado but none are to be had cheap & clean.
However there are tons of cheap 4WD trucks available.

My plan is 2WD V8 backed by a C4.
this will be a dirt road blaster... picture a low slung stadium style truck.

I guess I can just do away with the 4X4 transfer case etc...

Do the 4wd have different front suspension?

What's wrong with a 4wd? You can leave it as so and just run it in 2wd all the time. Plus I've heard that in Colorado it's good to have that 4x4 there when you need it.

just get a dummy case from a bronco II and front axle and DS pivot bracket for a 2wd Bronco II or Explorer, vola, 2wd swap 83-97 rangers.

for a 4wd ranger 98+ Bronco II dummy case, knuckles from an edge model ranger or 2wd explorer 95-01

sorry for my lack of ford knowledge here but what is a dummy case & DS?

thanks for the help.

a dummy case is basically and empty transfer case common on the 87-90 Bronco II(saves you from changing rear shaft, and tranny output, though if your 4x4 T-case is a fixed yoke in the front you can leave it in there, which is rare) DS is Drivers side drop bracket, to my understanding on the 4wd its on the outside off the engine craddle, on 2wd bronco II and explorers its on the inside,

but the 2wd bronco II and 2wd Explorer(91-94) use the same engine craddle as the 4wd rangers, the rangers are the odd-balls, some reason ford switch the engine craddle between 2wd and 4wd rangers(83-87)

dummy case on right

How about you just pull out the front driveshaft for the race?

And I wouldn't mess with a dummy transfer case, if you are going to carry the weight around you might as well as have 2 low.

I would just wait for that cheap 2wd or check junkyards for one with bad motor/tranny. You said your doing a v8 swap anyway.

Hmmm,
maybe ill just wait for the clean 2wd.

funny, ive been looking for a while and missed a few nice trucks for lack of cash.
now that I have the cash I cant find anything.
