ok guys i know this is not a popular swap but i want the 2wd! i have 2 other 4wd trucks so im not worried lol

the truck is an 87 ranger 4wd ttb. i have an 86 2wd with bent forged beams! what all do i need to swap to convert mine? is it just a matter of i-beams or do i have to take the engine cross memeber ect. is there any fabrication involved or all bolt on??

any help and or pics would be great to help me along with this swap and i will also post pics of the process of me doing it.

You'll need 2wd transmisson, the ibeams need swapped to 2wd ones. Sell the 4WD and buy a 2WD. Would be easier

I'm not too familiar with 2wd, but the reading I have done suggests that you have to swap the pivot arms. however, the 2wd and 4x4 Bronco II's use the same set-up for both 2wd and 4x4. I don't know where the differences are between them and rangers, it is something to research.

I'd say drill and bolt

And I would use the same tranny, as then you still have low range which can be helpful in a lot of situations.

Good luck,

Richard

Engine crossmember and mounts are different.

Only practical way to do this is get the 2WD I-beams from a Bronco II or Explorer, along with the pivot bracket for the passengerside beam. Should all bolt in, however this doesn't do anything like change the stance of your truck if that was what you're after.
To do that (and use actual Ranger I-beams) you would have to swap that crossmember and the pivot mounts attached to it.

Well the swap was due to not wanting to replace transfer case and/or diff in my beams being as my 4wd didn't work.

After tearing into things and realizing it was my front diff that was trashed and then coming across a set of d35s I'm going to be keeping the 4wd.

I don't need it out here where I am but it's always good to have!

I'm gonna start cut&turning my beams this weekend. Anyone have advise lol

12" coilovers with 350/400 spring rate are my dreaded purchase for this :( Does anyone have good deals on those?
