on my ranger im having some trouble with the 4wd. seems like only 4lo and 2hi work. cant get it to work in 4hi. light comes on for 4lo but not 4hi. and i stick it in 4hi and it just revs like its in neutral. im wondering if my tcase is dust? or do i just need to adjust the shift linkage? thanks..

need mroe info...manual t case? electronic? have you done any transmission work to it? are you lifted?

4hi should be straight back from 2 hi til it stops, if you pull to the side and then back a little more that is neutral.

its a manual transfer case.. i just bought the truck a few months ago. ive done a head job on it and i had to replace the flexplate. i hadnt driven it in 4wd at all. i finally got the chance and couldnt get it into 4hi i pull it back till it stop and its like its in neutral no movement just revving. and yes its lifted.

ok so now my 4x4 light is on in 2hi but if i move it to 4hi it goes off. also 4hi still isnt working its basically a second neutral now. 4lo however works. any clue on what in the world this problem could be its got me baffled. also in 2hi the 4x4 light stays on while driving and doesnt go off.

Your shifter needs adjusted and extended. it looks like you have at least 3 inches of body lift on there. I would start by adjusting the linkage and then get it extended(welding alittle extra shaft on there.)
