4wd problems AGAIN!!! HELP

Well my dad surprised me with a new shift motor to try out! I hooked it all up and it WORKED! I guess there was something wrong with the motor. But I did tear the original motor back a part and the rubber hose I used to replace the rubber stopper was already mashed pretty bad on one side. Maybe that was the problem but it had only been used no more than 10 times since I replaced the rubber stopper. Any ideas what else to replace it with that will hold its shape better?

Maybe a small nut, like the ones that go on machine screws? Wouldn't have any give to it though.
