ok, soo, I just put in new hub bearings and passenger side auto hub..waste of money i know now... anyways.. I'm all done today and decide to test out the 4wd.... as I'm driving to the dirt I hear a clunk every once in a while around sharp turns....I engage 4H, and its works great like a champ...as I'm leaving I put it in 2wd....however my 4H/4L lights start flashing ---usually a T-case thing... I'm driving down the road and it feels like I'm still in 4wd. turning into a parking lot, I hear my tires screeching at about 5mph....

I get home, lifted the front of the truck, I spin one wheel freely, the other spins the opposite, I check the fuse under the hood for shift motor, its blown, but i replace it and still same thing......my first guess is the shift motor needs to be cleaned...but help me out? feels like im draggin 1 of the tires around every turn.
Are the hubs locked up or something?

Have a Ranger meet Frid...plz plz plz...help

If you swapped to manuel you wouldnt have that problem lols.....mine are in the mail

thnx..but that dont help me get my truck rolling for tomarrows meet.

i had a problem with the electric transfer case where it just wouldnt shift at all. welcome to installing a manual transfer case! i also put in the manual hubs and the conversion kit. this was the best thing i ever did on my ranger. easy to replace anything, no headaches, and well.....reliability!

as for getting you back in working order, i would check everything again. check the axle for a frozen or bad u joint. check your bearings. check how tight everything is. dont overtighten the wheel bearing nut!
make sure your axle spacer and those silly plastic spacers are in properly (yes i have seen some people, god knows how, not install these properly).

check your brakes. make sure they are not dragging against the rotor.

then check the electric shift motor on your transfer case. either have someone in the cab shift it into 4hi and lo and 2wd and make sure it spins, or pull it off the case and put the wires up to a car battery. make sure it spins one way with the current, then reverse the polarity and make sure it spins the other way. if it doesnt, then you need to do the overhaul mentioned in the tech library, or i have a spare from my old one! it works!

with the motor off, look where it came from and find the "oh crap im stuck in 4 lo" shift shaft (it looks like a triangle wedge). manually shift it into 2wd, and see if that frees up the wheel. shift into 4hi and 4 lo and test that.

you can narrow down your problem this way.

if your still having problems it can be electrical, and that will cause you to pull your hair out. before i swapped in my manual transfer case i bought a whole new GEM module, 4wd relay and 4wd shift control module. none of it cleared up my electrical issue! over 900 dollars wasted. luckily i was able to resell them and recoup a good portion of the money.
