hey im researching cut and turns. ive done as much research as i can find but i still have some questions. i understand all the basics involved. the only thing im still having questions about is the axle shafts.

i know theres two ways to cut an turn one way is further up the beam like between the diff and the pivot and the other is at the knuckle

- Im just wondering which one you guys prefer?

- whats involved with modification of the axle shaft of the knuckle one? i read something about f250 passenger shaft and custom drivers side shaft? that thread wasnt real detailed.

- is all thats invloved with the 1st style (in terms of the axle shaft) a c-clip elimination?

between the diff and the pivot

 the ones with the villan motorsports stickers on them arent c/t, joel braced the hell out of them, but months later regretted not doing a c/t

I did both..

Here's why..

I didn't like the U-Joint angle with only extending the lower ball joint. Plus I would of had to cut a lot of material from the passenger axle passage way to obtain the wheel travel I was looking for.

And I didn't want to lose tons of ground clearance with cutting and turning like the zimmerman's.

So I found a balance point.. I did both....

lower bj, by its self is good for up to 4 inches of lift IMO keeping the camber bushing as close to 0 as can be. want more lift, you can use the camber bushing but the axle shaft joints start to get on the raged edge. along with the KPI(king pin incline) tends to want to pull the axle shafts off the outter clips.thats biggest problem. with anything past 4 inches.

1.5 drop brackets really help alot, aka stx/hyrider brackets. if you want 5.5-6 inches of lift. Also help with the plunge on the slip yoke on the axleshafts too.

if your carefull and take your time, you dont have to hack out of the axle port.

how my port is notched out, that is with the short beam on metal(bumpedon the frame) and the drivers hanging lose.

I run stock axle shafts, but Im also stock width.

Ive done my share of crawling around in low range, wheels cranked hard and lots of throttle,my best impressions of AWD drifts on dirt roads in 4hi and havent had a problem yet with the shafts. nor do I expect to,due to the bjs being kicked out on the beams.

ArronC - how much of each did you do?

canyoncritter - youve been the most help! how much lift do you have and how far out did you move the lower bj?

ive finished my sas and i dont really like the way it turned out. so im lookin into sellin that and starting a new project and im thinkin a prerunner.

I have skyjacker 6 inch coils in my truck, but my coil buckets(autofab) are 1 inch taller then stock. when new they sat at 15inches I think it was. but my truck is a reg cab, long bed, with the 4.0L

I cant rember off the top of my head how much the beams are cut, I bought a kit from autofab, had more money then time, at the time. But the BJ are pusehd out less then most do, due to the autofab stx piviot brackets.

one other thing abotu the stx type brackets helps with, is the less you have to push the BJ out the more bump travel you can get, before the inside of the tire hit's the coil bucket if you stay stock width.

I think I corrected for 2" of lift on the lower ball joints and 2" of cut and turn correction.
