4wd Conversion on 1997 2wd Dually 7.3L PSD

That is sexy. I wish I stuck with my plans to go with coil springs. WHat you are doing is what i had in mind. Instead I whimped out and got a shackle reversal kit. And it has NOT been ans simple as it should be.

Well, this is still in the planning process. I have a few things going on at home that are tying up my cash. Hopefully I can start collecting parts this fall.

Plumcrazy has access to a cheap divorced case out of an 8lug Scout. However, it is passenger drop.

So i might possibly use that case with a Chevy D60. Those are cheaper and easier to find since they are not as valuable in the the wheelin world.
I would even entertain an 8 lug D44. However, I would prefer a D60. A D44 would handle the power just fine. The weight is what I am cautious about.

We will see what happens. I need to see if a passenger drop is even possible. There is a 4" exhaust pipe running along the frame rail. Not sure if I can fit the case. Everything up front should clear. I know first generation Cummins trucks ran a passenger side diff.

I finally pulled out the 4.10s and put in the 3.55s i got for my birthday in May. I can now cruise at 70mph! :D My rpms dropped 20% at 70 mph.

I learned it has an open diff. That explains why I get stuck in wet grass.

Breaking them in

I also had the reverse shackle kit on mine. It wa made by pmf fabrications and it was simple to bolt on

Yep. Pretty much. Was looking for something closer to stock height tho.

Nice rig!

Thanks sold it a few months back. Still kicking myself in the butt for that one. It was bone stock when I got it. The pmf rsk was 3.5 inches with a 4 inch superduty spring. The ride is 100 times better with the rsk

That wasn't an open dif. It was a factory trac loc. It probably needs new clutches. An open carrier is shaped differently.

Wouldn't there be an "s" spring between the side gears though if it were a Trac Lok? I don't see where the tabs for the clutch plates would go either.

No spring on a sterling axle. Dana axles that use a trac loc don't have a spring either. Just the smaller axles use a spring. An open carrier comes to more of a point on the side opposite or the ring gear on a 10.25.

The RSK is one of the best mods for those trucks. I have rode in rsk modded trucks. It does ride nice.

No kidding. Learn something every day.
That makes sense too. You dont see too many 2wd trucks with an open diff.

EDIT: I wish I took a better look at it now to see how it works. Are there clutches on the outside of the spiders or something?
