As the title says I have a 4spd manual 4x4. No overdrive  I want to use this truck as my hunting vehical but the property I hunt is 30 miles away using a 75mph hwy. If I was to meet the speed limit or even close to it my truck would be rev'd really high for the duration of the trip. Does anyone drive their truck like this or is it dangerous for the engine? I've made the trip twice in the truck and both times the vibration of the high reving engine rattle the starter bolts loose. I think I have taht taken care of now.

I really would like your opinions on high speed, long distance 4spd travel.

Thanks,
Blake

Just drive slower. 55 should be fine, plus you'll save gas. Hop in an old Chevy three speed and drive that around for a bit and you'll be loving your four speed.

Even with the 29" tires you are still over 3,200rpms at 75MPH, probably close to 3,500, depends on differential ratio.

So you won't be doing any favors for your engine to maintain that RPM for longer drives.

Best bet would be to find a 5 speed from a 4x4, for your engine bolt pattern, I believe bell housings can be swapped and Toyo Koygo made both a Ranger 4 speed and 5 speed, but if you can find it complete it would probably be an easier swap.
Never done that swap through

Huh? So what if you don''t have the over drive gear. 4th in a four speed is 1:1 same as the 5 (also very common in 3-speeds to have 1:1), I drove mine for years w/o 5th but I never didn't get where I was going.

A few hundred RPMs isn't fatal.

It isn't really 5th gear in these, it is a true Over Drive(OD) so has less than 1:1, usually 1:.80

...................1st / 2nd / 3rd / 4th / OD(5th) / R
FM-146 is 3.769 / 2.210 / 1.516 / 1.00 / 0.812 / Reverse = 3.40
M5OD is 3.40 / 2.05 / 1.31 / 1.00 / 0.79 / Reverse = 3.40

It will be fine as long as you maintain the oil. Just slow down.

My scion revs to 4k on the freeway. It scared me when I first bought it.
