4runner tranny problem?

hey i got a friend that just bought a 84 4runner with the 22re. has a brand new clutch (600 miles) and it has a chatter in any gear EXCEPT 3rd. and only when your foot is off the clutch. we dropped the tranny and inspected as much as possible. the throw out bearing looks and feels good. the clutch is clean and looks like its new as well verifying the 600 mile clutch we were told.


thoughts on what it could be? we left the tranny on the floor, and we are thinking of taking it to a shop to have it checked out.

it hasn't, looks a bit worn down but nothing real bad, no chatter marks at all...

could that be a culprit even tho third gear is quiet?

It is possible,in the early 90's I worked at a shop and we turned the flywheel with every clutch change.Our shop worked on the japanese line of veh's.I don't remember any trans problems with the toyotas.

anybody else have any insight? my buddy called a tranny shop and of course they said the tranny needs to b rebuilt, 1200 buck est..
