Hey everyone, I am new here and so bare with me. I have a 1995 ranger 4x4, 4.0. Its got the 4r55e transmission. It has all the forward gears, but no reverse. it seems to be still in drive in neutral, reverse, and park. i have been told its welded itself inside. Anyways, my question is, can I use any year of 4r55e transmission or do I need to find one year specific? A local transmission shop told me this 1995 transmission was year specific. That a 1996 or later transmission would not work due to computer controls specific to 1995? Is this true or is this guy just trying to get me to spend 2500 at his shop for a rebuild. I can get a rebuilt one on e-bay for 650.00. I found a usd one in denver from a 99 explorer for 500.00. Ect, ect. So my question is can I use any 4r55e transmission mated with a code X 4.0, or am i looking at rebuilding this one because 1995 was a year in itself?? Any help would be appreciated.
