Truck has 180,000 miles on it. Trans slipped about 8 months ago. Then it stopped slipping and drove great for the last 8 months. Week ago it started shifting real hard (slamming). Then it slipped out to a stop. I sat there for awhile 1/2 hour or so crawling around checking everything out. Put the truck in reverse and it was fine, put into drive it moved a little ways then slipped out. Left the truck came back later, jumped in started it, put into drive and it was fine. Drove as fast as I could to get it home, as soon as the trans warmed up it slipped out again.
1. Took the pan off, nothing but fluid normal wear and tear, No parts or debri
2. Checked the wires and connectors, fuses, Fine
3. Replaced ECP solenoid, doesn't shift hard now
4. Put back together then ordered a manual.
5.Started checked fluid put into drive ( worked great for a few)
****. Still slips when it gets warm!!!
6. Got mad reved it up in 1st and then in 2nd and it took off..just for abit.
When its cold I can put it in 4x4 and climb like mad shifting all the way and it doesn't slip. Till it gets warm. Also Reverse is working fine.
Am I missing something??

Update!!! Dumped the fluid again and pulled out all the solenoids to make sure they were clean. Found nothing. Put it all back together. Test drove it. Now you have to feather the throttle to make it go, but it will move in all gears. Then it will grab pull like he** then slip out when you stop. Maybe the TCC?? And now the O/D light and the engine light flash. Any ideas anyone???

Scraping transmission project. Found a 1998 ranger 4x4 frame, 4.0 motor,Auto trans, front end and rear end with only 50,000 miles on it for 800$

Swap went well

My 1996 now has a 1998 trans in it and I was able to get rid of the two piece rear drive line. I tried to use the 1998 trasfer case but could not. The speedo on the 1996 is in the transfer case. 1998 is a sensor in the trans so couldnt make it work.
