I have an 87 Ranger 2.9 and when I place the t-case into 4High everything works great, but when placed into 4Low it pops out. As soon as I start to let out on the clutch the truck starts to move then blam it pops out of low and starts to grind. Sometimes but not very often it will work. We checked the linkage and it seems fine. The t-case also pops out when placed in low without the maunal hubs engaged. PS the hubs and t-case are manual.

Thanks in advace.

My guess would be that the wear pads on the shift fork are gone. The only way for them to go is excessive heat from the lack of lubrication.

May be time to open it up and see what the damage is.

The left one is what would be found in the 1350. This sun collar engages the low range cluster. If the pads are gone there will be excessive play in the collar and it won't engage fully, Resulting in Jumping out of low and grinding.

And the chances are you find something like this inside is prolly close to 90%

Are the guts inside the 1350 man the same as 1350 auto, cause if the are could I use the none damaged peice in place of the damaged one.

The shifter gate may be out of adjustment, move it back and see if that helps.
