if i put 4in axle block spacers will i have to do anything else to my 1996 ranger super cab 4x4

Don't. Stacked blocks are a bad idea.

so your going to lift the rear and not the front?

If you have the one piece 4" block you can run them, but keep a close eye on them. Stacking two, 2" blocks and welding them is looking for trouble(the blocks could separate and blow out). Like was said earlier you will experience axle wrap when you run blocks. New springs or shackles are a better option if you have the means......
