460 in a 2007 ranger

I’m looking into putting a 460 in my 2007. Anybody know what modifications are required? Or parts that I would have to buy?

I’m most concerned about the fan clearance and having to cut the firewall. Also the exhaust manifolds, oil filter, etc.

I’ve looked through some of the forums and I can’t find much info on swapping a 460 into a 3rd gen ranger

I know it's been done in earlier Rangers. There was one here that raced at the local to me drag strip. (Beech Bend in Bowling Green, KY)

Hopefully I can start my 460/C6 swap into my '93 this week.

I have two 460 motors, one than runs from a '70 Lincoln and the other that doesn't run from a '69 Lincoln. I bought the '69 motor mostly because of the complete FEAD on it. It has a short style water pump (there is no crank pulley, the belts ride in the balancer) and the crankshaft mounted power steering pump that I'm thinking about trying to use. The '70 has alternator and power steering brackets on it, but they are from another engine family and the belts don't line up perfectly like I want, but I may be able to get them to...

Are you looking to end up with a low street/track truck or or something higher? Do you want AC? What are the goals?

I'm guessing newer tech like rack and pinion steering and electric power steering pumps would make this easier.

I’m looking to make it more of a street truck, maybe do some towing too. Almost like a daily driver

I don’t really care too much about ac but it would be nice to have

I want to keep using my ranger like I do now but it will just have a mostly stock big block

I was looking into a 302/351 swap but I would have to buy a vehicle with that engine and a transmission. I have a 460 and a transmission already

what rear axle is in it now?
for the 460, carburetor or EFI?
computer ain't gonna be happy, you'll need some wiring and engine management.

can it be done? will it be baaad ass? yes and hell yes.

we've all been to car shows and seen 454s in Porsches, 429s in Pintos, so grab your welder & cutting torch and get busy.

one more thing, stock brakes won't even come close with that much weight up front, 31" tires & towing.

A 2007 is a 5th gen, arguably. 83-88 is first gen. 89-92 is second gen. 93-97 is third gen. Depending on who you talk to 98-00, 98-04, and 98-11 is 4th gen, but TRS says 98-00 is 4th and 01-04 is 4th gen facelift and 05-11 is 5th gen.

Electronics will be a lot of work. Your Ranger is far more advanced in terms of electronics over anything the 460 went into.

You’re also going to need a huge shoehorn.

The reason the 302 is a more common swap is that it fits easier in the engine bay and information on the swap is easier to come by. That’s not to say that a 460 can’t be done.
