I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my transmission for some time now. About a month ago my trans went out on the road, so i decided to buy a rebuilt one from a transmission shop in town. I got it and put it in and now i have a few problems i didnt have before......It has a hard time shifting out of first gear, and after driving it for a while the OD light comes on and flashes and i dont seem to have any power when this happens. Like it is stuck in 3rd gear or something.
Can anyone help me with this.
Robert

Get the codes pulled with a scanner..its going into limp mode because of a problem either electrical or mechanical....but for anyone to really help you, you need to get the codes pulled.

Yeah so this is part of the problem. I used a code reader to see what was going on and two transmition codes came up. So i looked them up and one had to do with something about 1st gear but im not totally sure and the second was about something to do with the overdrive. But the reason i dont know the codes is because I erased them to see if they popped up again after i cleaned some of the plugs, and they arent. But it still is running the same and i dont know what to do?

Drive it untill the codes come back. Pull codes , post them here. Then we can help.

Ok i understand that and im not trying to bother anyone with my questions, nut i have been driving it for about 3 weeks like this and the codes still havent come up.

The codes may have come back...sometimes they dont turn the cell(OD Light)on. Let me say this, usually delayed shifts can be caused by...speed sensor..TPS and even MLPS(also known as neutral safety switch)and if ya have one sometimes mass air flow sensor.

Have you taken it back to the tranny shop to see what they say?

He test drove it and plugged it in to a code reader, but no codes came up. He said since i have 33" tires my tranny is working harder so that may be the reason my OD is overheating or something like that. he said to change the filter and oil, but i did once i put it back in. and i had been running 33"s for over a year before and my old trans never had a problem pushing them. So now I have no idea whats wrong haha everything worked before my tranny went out and now these problems came up with this rebuilt one.

If the trans shop told you to try a oil and filter change to fix this, run away as fast as you can. Shame on them for wasting your money.

Is the trans working normal ( as far as you can tell ) and no O/D lamp flashing?? If yes, leave it alone until it acts up.

Did they use a real scan tool to pull codes ?? Not a code reader ??

It runs normal sometimes if i drive it slower than normal, but there are two things that keep happening.

1. After I drive it for a while like to work about 6 miles the OD starts flashing and my truck will no longer accelerate. Its feels like as if its stuck in 3rd or 4th gear.

2. Sometimes when i take off from a stop it wont shift out of first. I have to let the RPMS drop back down and then accelerate agian and it shifts. after that though it shifts through every gear fine.

And it looked really small like an OBD2 reader but im not possotive. I dont really know the difference.

Pulling codes is 1 thing....but is what should of been done while the scanner is hooked up was for go for a drive while someone is reading the data stream to see if all the input components are working correctly( as i stated in my previous post). If he just had 1 of them hand held scanners(about the size of the palm of your hand)they sometimes wont read codes..i have 1 and my OD light was flashing and mine showed no codes and then i put my snapon scanner on it and it read my codes.

Heres my take of your problem...either you have a TPS, speed sensor, MLP switch bad......or you may have a shift solenoid not working right or valve body problem.

Usually when the computer throws a gear ratio code that kinda tells that the computer is commanding a shift but computer sees no rpm change or not the proper rpm change from the speed sensors.

I dont know where ya live but is there another tranny shop in your area if so go there and see and talk to them...but dont tell them you just put it in and its a tranny from Joe Blow down the street.
