Hi all, I am new here,
Dumb question, are all the wires used in the 42 pin harness connector 18 gauge? or if not, where could I find a list.?
I am specifically looking for #9 pin red.
This for my 1999 Ranger 3.0. I had a rat eat that wire.
Thank you, Lisa

I've use wire stripper tool with the gauges marked by the stripper holes to figure out the wire gauge in the past.

Yeah, I will have to cut the wire wrap further down in order to do that, the now dead rat chewed that wire so far down.
Thank you.

Yes, stranded 18ga wire will work in most 12v automotive circuits up to 15amps

Stranded 16ga up to 20amps, this tends to be the more common size in Vehicles

Most circuits use 7.5 to 15amp fuses and each powers multiple devices

The point of having fuses is so the fuse melts and cuts power before the wire melts and cuts power, lol
So the wire size used would be directly related to the fuse that powers that wire

If the wire you need to repair is 18ga then use 18ga or 16ga to repair, assuming a max 15amp fuse on that circuit
