Thinking of cutting my axles 3" on each side this winter (mini Tub) to get some decent sized drag radials underneath my 87. Already have Caltracs and a set of smaller drag radials and no bueno on the traction.

Anyone have any pictures of there mini tub ect?

Thanks in advance

You can always box the rear of the frame, drill two holes In the top and fill it with lead.
I have about 300lbs of lead saved for ballast. Have you tried some drag shocks up front? 70/30's may help. 90/10's are scary on the street.

Changing the rearend won't make a difference on traction unless you change the entire suspension. You may be happier with ladder bars rather than the cal-tracs. I have cal tracs and like them but they can lack when the slicks aren't hot. What tires are you running? Maybe it's time to join the street driving drag slicks club. It's not so bad until it rains or its hot out and you go through gravel.

Do you have the complete Caltrac setup? Or just the bars?

What shocks? Caltrac uses re-stickered Rancho RS9000 shocks.

Have the bars been set on scales?

Reason I ask all these questions is I did all the rear Caltracs stuff, QA1 coil-overs and properly scale tuned an S-10 w/ a 383 pushing 480, and it hooks and goes straight everytime. It runs a consistent 10.050- 10.055.

Ranger don't need tubs usually, maybe mini tubs, but that be decided by monster wide tires and a low ride height.

Once the leaves are gone and it's 4-linked there's all kinds of room.

...and don't do ladder bars. That sh!t it way out-dated, and virtually un-tunable.

If you had a properly set-up 4-link, I guarantee it'd hook every time.

X2! And if you need to add weight to the rear put in a fuel cell and move the battery back there as well.

Thanks for the suggestions gents. I could switch shocks and add a fuel cell and battery relocation. QA1 is right up the road from me in Lakeville Mn.

Good, go up there and be their test dummy, for a Ranger TIB kit.

I'm good on the whole flatbed idea.

Update: I ordered a Summit Racing polyethylene 16 Gallon Fuel cell and all new -8 lines and 3/8" adapters for my Holley Blue fuel pump.

Already relocated my Yellow top Battery to the back this weekend. Fuel cell will fit perfectly the way I have it layed out. Dropping the stock tank this week in preparation for the cell.

Also played with the adjustment on the CalTracs some. Going to Qa1 after I install the cell and have them measure for some new shocks front and back. Will update later on.
