Auto locking hubs start grinding this morning. I decide to do the manual hub swap. Drive about fifty miles over the course of the day. I kick in and out of 4X4 several times without a problem. Get ready to move the truck and NOTHING acts like 4X4 neutral. I understand the front hubs not locking. But why are the rear tires not pulling ? Truck is a 92 if that matters.

answer to PM

No I didn't do the change to manual hubs yet. Still stock
I do get a grinding when I try to go into park, maybe hung up trying to get into 4X4 low ?

Electric unfortunately
I wish the whole set up were manual. I hate this electric crap.

Pull the motor off and see if it stuck between positions.

thanks

If cleaning up the hubs doesn't work that will be step two. Would either of these keep the rear tires from pulling ??

If the tcase is between positions it might, the rear wheels couldn't care less if the front hubs are engaged or not though.

Thanks it was stuck in between. Now it will only shift into 4X4 while in neutral. But seems to work fine then.
Any ideas why only in neutral? ??

Automatics have to be in either neutral or park to shift into 4x4 low... maybe there is a sensor to tell the 4x4 system it is ok to shift and something is messed up with that???

I don't really have anything other than that, just throwing that out as an idea.

That's what I was thinking also. Thanks again for Your last advice it saved me some time and money.
