i just bought a 1990 4x4 stx ranger with the 2.9l and the more i work on it the more things i find that a super f***ed up! the brakes felt like crap so i pulled the wheels off only to find a set of rotors that looked like they had been on there since the day it left the dealers lot. as i started to disassemble them, i found that the splined washers behind the snap rigns were bent and the teeth were destroyed. then i found out both the spindle nuts were only finger tight and that who ever took it apart last failed to install seals on the inner bearings, so the bearings were dry as a bone. the worst part of the deal is that the spindles are chewed up so bad i dont think the new inner seals are going to last long:dunno: so my question is this, does anyone know of any parts stores that sell theses spindles and splined washers or is this a dealer only item? i always see people listing napa numbers for parts, but i couldnt find any info on this. thanks for any help in advance.:icon_cheers:

First off is your 1990 equipped with a Dana28 or a Dana35?

Being a 1990 it could have either...
but also judging by the fact that you mentioned bent splined washers,
but did NOT mention outer needle bearings I suspect you have a D35...

There are any of a dozen people on the forums that probably
have a shelf full of spares to provide for their own breakage,
and most, if not all of those TRS members are willing to share.

I know I generally am because I can easily get more where I
originally got what I've already put on my shelf.

Used ones are far cheaper, so either go yard crawling yourself or ask one of
the resident yard crawlers to get them for you.

Unless you can find the splined washers at a yard, they are a FORD part only(Last ones I bought were around 17.00 a piece)Most yards just shoot the c-clip off the end of the axle(which you can't find either) so the washer becomes lost also. Look for Explorers and Rangers that still have the wheels and hubs on them, as the parts should still be there. The junkyard I frequent gives me all the clips I can find. Good luck..........

I had a splined washer failure , Ford wants you to buy some whole package , you can not buy just the washer and clip .
Best bet is the wrecking yard , and look for explorers , They all have the Dana 35 .
The only yard around me , charged me 10.00 for 3 .
Usually I drop this kind of stuff in my pocket , and buy something else , or leave .
I don't know why I didn't this time .
I got one factory premium sound speaker , and the 3 washers , and one clip , they charged me 15.00 , wanted 20.00 .
There are not a lot of rangers , or Explorers left in the yards , or I would be willing to send you what you need , but I need to have spares .
The Explorer will also have the spindle you need , and it is easy to remove .
