i got a 86 with manuel 4x4 it works good in 4 wheel low and high its just hard to get it in 4 wheel low when i pull the lever all the way back i have to find just the right spot to get it in 4x4 low is there anyway to adjust?

Yes, loosen the two bolts (one big, one small) holding the lever on the side of your transmission and adjust the shifter gate so that it shifts into each gear (detent) properly.

Ok because when i put it into 4 low it scrubs a little bit until i get the lever in the right spot can that be fixed with a little adjustment?

best way to do this is remove your shifter boot. loosen the two bolts so it's still a little firm. shift it into 4wd until it's engaged. you can feel it click in...
shift it back and forth if your not sure.
now tap the shift bracket down with an extension until it just rests slightly off the shifter. tighten the bolts and check all settings.
works perfect every time for mine. from 2WD to 4hi, neutral and 4 lo and back...

Can you get to the bolts if you remove the shifter boot?and where are the bolts i can't find them?

The bolts are on the left side of the transmission itself (look from underneath the truck). They are easy to see.

Ok my last question is what size are the bolts and do i have to lossen both of them to move the bracket someone has moved this one all the way forward.

Doesn't seem like you are listening.

Yes reread and its been said *both* have to be loosened.

And who knows what size they are, just start trying all your wrenches until one fits...

If you don't have one that fits, measure it from a crescent wrench and go buy one or two.

ok i got one bolt loose but then it started raining so ill have to finish it later.and i was also wondering does it mess anything up if you offroad in two wheel drive with the transfer case in 4 wheel low?Cause i don't need 4 wheel low sometimes but i would like to drive in 2 wheel but with the low speed of 4 wheel?

does it hurt anything if i drive in 2 wheel with the transfer case in 4 low without the front hubs locked in?

It will be just fine, although you won't go very fast in low gear. You also won't be able to turn any tighter than if you were in 4-Low, because the u-joints on the front axles will be turning, and will bind up just as if the hubs were locked in.

In my opinion, there's no good reason for, and no benefits to, driving in "2-Low".

Spott

I was just wondering.Because theres a lake near my house i like to go down to and it has a little hill coming back out and is rough and instead of going fast in 2 wheel low and not riding the clutch why notjust put it in 2 low and go up it without being beat around in the cab
