ok im looking to swap a 5 speed from a later model 2.3 ranger into my 1983 2.3 2wd 4 speed ranger.

my ranger is 1983 2.3 manual 4 speed, manual brakes and steering.

also what year rangers had the 5 speed im looking for iirc any 2.3 88-92 and or maybe up to 97?

i have a pedal cage, brake booster, steering box and column from iirc a 90, i have these parts laying around to swap in power brakes and steering. i figured i would tell u all that incase the pedal cage has anything to do with a 5 speed swap also.

Do you have the Toyo Kogyo 4 speed.

The Toyo TK5 speed was from 1983 to 1987.

The 4th gear in the 4 speed is the same as the 4th gear in the 5 speed.

The 5th gear has a good overdrive.

I assume it's the toyo 4 speed

If you swap the trans then you will have to swap drive shafts too. In 85 they went to internal slaves but the lines hook up the same.

Ok do u know what year they changed the d/s ?
Im trying to gather all the parts i need to do this or i might still do a t5 swap..

anyone ever do a m50d or 5 speed toyo in a stock 4 speed truck?
i assume the toyo swap might be more straight forward or a direct swap than the m50d,
does anyone know which of the 2 is stronger?

The M5OD is stronger. It can be swapped, but you'll need the slave/ master cylinder line, and be prepared to trim your floor some and be able to cover the differences in shifter locations. (Most people use a piece of diamond plate.) You'll also need to modify/ replace your driveshaft.

thanks.
does anyone know if the stock toyo 4 speed clutch and 2.0 flywheel will work with the M5OD, both of these parts where pretty new when i bought the truck, the truck had a blown 2.0 and i did a 2.3 swap.

do u or anyone happen to know the length of the d/s for a regular cab short box 2wd ranger with a 2.3 and the m50d 5 speed?

Just grab one from a salvage yard. It's not like it's hard to take out, just four bolts and a sliding motion.
