My dad has a 1983 2.8 4 speed and he would like to change it to a 5 speed. Would a 5 speed from a 1987 2.0 bolt up to the 2.8?

No. Different bolt patterns. You might be able to swap the bells, but I'm not sure. Better to find one from a 2.9 or a 4.0.

I was just wondering about the tranny from the 2.0 because I might buy a parts truck for my ranger. And the parts truck is a 2.0 5 speed. Would it do any harm to the truck if we would use the 5 speed from the 2.0?
