Am I correct in assuming a tranmission from behind a 86 2wd 4 cylinder will bold right up to my 84 4wd 6 cylinder. Please responds even if I am correct. Thanks

No.

The bellhousings, slave cylinders, and driveshafts are different. The transmissions are not the same length, nor do they have compatible parts up front.

So am I looking for a Toyo Koygo 5sp, FM-145 or a FM-146 from a 4wd truck to swap out for my 4 sp? They will all bolt right up to my 2.8l engine correct. Thanks for any advice

NONE of them are the correct length. Only a rare form of the TK5 has the appropriate slave cylinder hardware and 4WD.

Is the length how far the clutch thows to the flywheel? If I find a Ranger or Bronco2 with a 2.8l and 5sp can I take that 5sp and swap it in. The reason I ask is my trany is starting to pop out of gear under load, and I am doing an axle swap in a month or two so I figure I would swap out the trany at the same time and shorten the drive shaft once instead of twice. Thanks

The transmission I am swaping in will have all the hardware, clutch, slave cylindar and everything else included. With that said am I still limited to a TK-5 from behind a 2.8l?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes, and ONLY from 1983-84. Unless you're going to retrofit clutch hydraulics and the pilot bearing and tear into the front of the transmission to make the slave fit.

A TK5 is STILL the wrong length. Nothing is as short as a TK4 but another TK4.

Thanks for the info. I am swaping in a full width ford 9", buliding a doubler and swaping in some chevy 63" leaf springs. I might change the wheel base by a couple of inches, so the lenght of a 5 speed trany is not an issue. I mostly wanted to find something that will bolt to the back of the engine with out too much hassle.
