Hey guys I am having an issue with the 4wd on my 2001 ford ranger 4.0 SOHC 5 speed manual.
First off it engages in 4 high but when I switch it to 4 low nothing. And I am at a complete stop, clutch and brake pressed down trans in neutral and still nothing.
Now I have taken the motor off the transfer case and tested it, it engages in 4 high but no 4 low, I have checked all fuses and relays, all good.
I replaced the motor, nothing
I replaced the 4WD control module, nothing
I replaced the switch on the dash and still nothing
Any help is appreciated Thanks

I had that same issue on my 92. Don't know if it's the same system for your year but nss was messed up on mine. Replaced that and all is good now.

I don't think that will work, I have a manual trans, I'm thinking its the harness and I really don't want it to be

Do a search in the tech section and you will find ways to check and test the system with a meter. It takes some time but much cheaper than randomly replacing expensive parts
