whats the flaws of the 4.0? i know they got a bit of pep but i have herd horror storys bout warped heads??!

OHV or SOHC?

The OHV had some top end oiling problems, usually leading to worn out push rod tips and rocker arms.

The SOHC has the odd problem with the timing chain cassets coming apart.

You should also read the 4.0 Rebuild article in the Tech Library. The 4.0 is a good, low RPM, torquey, motor that will go 200k easily with routine maintance. The rocker arms and pushrods have a problem mainly related to wear excess wear between 80K and 140K depending upon the maintance schedule the engine receiveds. The rocker arm and pushrod issue is a fairly easy repair by someone who likes to work on his truck.

cracked heads not warped heads. The ohv have terrible castings that will crack if the motor overheats. There are NEW castings that you can buy from places like kingcylinderhead.com for about 400$ fully assembled. the 4.0 ohv is easy to tear down. On the plus side its pretty hard to kill the bottom end on a 4.0 they are the one thing built ford tough on these trucks
