I was told by a guy that I know to be knowledgeable that the 9inch houseing was to weak to weld a 4 link to. He said I would have to truss it to 4 link. Is this the case?:icon_confused:

I've seen the 9" set up with almost every imaginable suspension.

1 link, 2 and a panhard, 3 and a pan hard, missing link, 4 link, double triangulated 4, watts, leaves, and air bags etc.

The axle tubes are plenty heafty, but I'd still say truss it.

Its not the tubes that are usually the problem. Its the stamped sheetmetal center. I would at least put a back brace style truss on a stock housing.

so I could use a some 2x3 stock and build a truss

Just do some research on www.pirate4x4.com, there's tons of guys there that have trussed 9 inches running a 4 link. You're better off getting 3/8" plate and custom fitting it to the diff, welding the whole thing.
