I was originally looking for a 4 door truck but wasnt sold on the look of the new tacoma so I settled on an xtra cab ranger. Imagine my surprise when I was in Ireland 4 months ago visiting family and saw a 4 door ranger that isnt offered in the states. I had almost forgot about that but while on vacation in central america last month (costa rica) i saw a new 4 door ranger 4x with a power stroke diesel. I would have been very interested in this truck when I was in the market, why arent these available in the states, kinda sucks.:icon_confused:

I'd guess emmisions standards and automakers have their head shoved up their asses.

But like you, I think a four-door Ranger would be a F#$%ing sweet idea. Add a powerstroke to that order and maybe bring back the "high rider" option, and they'd sell like hot-cakes at IHOP.

European countries have them, not sure why we don't.

I would say that since Ford Ranger sales are up due to fuel economy as opposed to Ford F-Series that Ford decided to leave the F-Series as the roomy crew cab, that way they would hold onto more sales.

If you want a four door Ranger, purchase an Explorer Sport Trac. It's almost the same thing IMO.

Sport trac is really ugly.
And now it's trying to copy Jeep SRT
Yea, they're not that pretty. I don't like the tiny bed either. Crew cab rangers have a 5 or so foot bed I think?

And I don't see the resemblance.. other than how the mirrors have kind of the same shape and they both have little fog lights.. but there's a thousand other vehicles that have that.

Tis fugly.I would not drive it.

Buy a 4 door ranger /w powerstroke form mexico and illegally get it across the boarder, theres enough people doing it why not trucks too they do allot of work as well.

Actually.. can't you take your vehicle into another country anyway? So if you purchase it in Mexico and register/insure it there and drive it across the border.. wheres the problem? Do you need to register it in the states as well?

I thought the reason we didn't have the four door Ranger in the states is because it doesn't meet federal crash standards

The key word there was illegally, so it would be like an Illegal alien "truck". I know that you can bring vehicles over into the states but you have to go through alot of paperwork and stuff, plus they might limit the vehicals you can bring in.

While the SportTrac is a good option for a 4-door truck. Problem lies in the fact the chassis is a SUV base and not a truck base. In other words, could I hual 1,800lbs of stone in the bed of the SportTrac? I already found out that a 96' Ranger could and still could even with the new models. Now with the new SportTrac that has Independent Rear Supension, its about the ride quilty than load capcity.

In short, I want a truck that can take me where I want to go. Hual whatever I need. Seat extra unexpected guests. Has good power to move. But has reasonable gas mileage. And is built to take a few good beatings without braking parts down the road. So far, only the Ranger has meet these demands of mine. While the F-150 could do better, its a truck thats more than I need. In this time of age, size does matter. Being big and in charge, doesn't always mean it will sale.
