4 banger upgrades

Hey yall just wounderin what yall would suggest as far as upgrades for the 2.3 to give it a little more A**, I know theres not that much you can do with out adding a turbo but just seein if yall had any luck with exhaust or air intakes, ive got bout 400 dollars to spend at this time, Thanks, Nick
 
You can port the head and intake, it had a nice seat of the pants gain when I did it to my 93 Mustang with a 2.3. Other than that, you can easily piece together a nitrous kit for under $400. A fifty shot should do wonders and shouldn't hurt anything.
 
its hard to gain power out of theses engines without spending a fortune...easiest way is to just drop in a 2.3t, but some porting and a cam would be the next best thing, visit esslinger.com to see an example of how pricey these little things are lol.
 
I don't know what your gear ratio is but I had 3.08 and switched to 4.10 and had more power across the rpm range. It is a lot more fun to drive.
 
changing the gear ratio won't give you more power but it will give you a better feel for the power you have.
 
Changing gears is a great mod IMO. I know in my ls1 car, it really woke it up. I have been thinking about doing gears in my truck, but....no idea what stock is, no idea what I should be shifting at (no tach), and idk if it will hurt my gas mileage too much on the highway.

you probably got a 3.08 or a 3.45 like i had.

going to a 3.73 rear will HELP your mpg. because you will put the engine in its optimal power zone in the final gear. so insted of cruising at 1900-2100 youll be cruising at 2300-2500 rpm. the lima engine makes more power at these rpms, so it takes less effort to keep the truck moving at speed.
 
How will 4.10s do? Or will the gears be too short while city driving? I know first gear is already pretty damn short...I just wish I could actually shift it higher, but with no tach, I don't want to push it too high. Once it sounds pissed off, I'll shift. That is the highest I go.

Already been looking. Hopefully I'll be getting a job soon (just moved to Phoenix not long ago), so hopefully that will work out and I'll start saving more money again/pay bills and have some free spending money.

depends on the tire size you have. i personally would just do 3.73's, but others will swear by 4.10's
 
Tire size right now is stock...225/70/14 (I think). I eventually want to do some 17s or something, and if I boost/spray it, I want some wider tires out back for sure. Nitto 275/35/17 or something.
