I have an 86 with the 2.0l and was wondering if it is possible to put a newer head from a 4-banger with 8 sparkplugs. and if so will this help fuel economy any?

thanks

Since the 2.0 were usually carbed there would be much more work to it than just adding the head...the head from most 2.3 will fit as far as I know, but the intake from your current setup apparently will not work...

Unless you want to go fuel injected then there would likely be problems with mixing and matching intakes...and the 2.0 pistons are actually smaller than the 2.3 (I put a 2.3 head on a 2.0 block)...but the 2.3 heads will bolt on...just a little extra room above the piston in the combustion chamber...mine worked fine like that until the cracked piston became a bigger problem...

Putting a 2.3 head on a 2.0 will give you lower compression and make the 2.0 even more of a slug.

A dual plug 2.3 head requires the matching intake which is designed for fuel injection, not a carb. Another problem is that running 8 plugs requires DIS ignition which requires the EEC-IV computerized fuel injection system to run.

You "could" run the full EEC-IV system with a carb instead of fuel injectors (the computer would only be controlling the ignition).

I don't see any gains doing this to a 2.0 and you are talking about tons of work. I would just swap a dual plug 2.3 in along with the proper computer and wiring and call it good. That would be much easier.
