Ok so my flywheel and starter are shot for a total of 6 starters and 2 flywheels for the year of 2007. I know its about time to replace the clutch and had a compression test on my engine and I have about 75lbs of pressure average.

My thoughts are to just replace the whole engine and drivetrain. What I want to know is.... Has anyone swapped a Police Crown Vic V8 and transmission into their RBV?

The reason I want the crown vic is because I can get the whole car for no more than 2 grand with low miles and around the year 2000 which is far less than mixing an matching parts from a mustang 5.0 or 4.0. And i can completely take out the wiring harness so it would be a plug and play (kinda) Just replace everything with the crown vic wires. OH and they are freaking EVERYWHERE. Police retired vehicles every year for dirt cheap

Give me your thoughts / .02 PLEASE lol

not sure about what it would take to do said swap, but in my humble opinion it would be BAD ASS!!!!!! and I would love to see the finished product, I can only imagine that the ttruck would run like a rapped ape with that motor/trans setup in it.

I say go for it and post a build thread with lots and lots of pics. and if you do decide to do this good luck and have fun with it!

p.s. you also might wanna consider using the rear end out of the vic also, so that you know it will take the power.

oooo And the rear end is geared down nicely I think! BUT I just finished my 8.8 swap literally yesterday.

EDIT: AND!! I can drive the crown vic until I'm ready to do the swap!
I have a ton of research to do on the transmission...well hell... The whole car lol!! The idea just popped into my head and I dont know much about the crown vic.. Looks like a Sleepless night of studying!

Well, do you really want my honest thoughts? Okay...

Wake up. Didn't you realize after the 2nd or even 3rd starter that there was something wrong?

Starters and flywheels don't just maul each other for fun. You're likely getting the wrong part(s).

it has been done there were pics in a post about a 4.6 ranger. i think 281 ranger is who posted them

That'd be cool but isn't your bronco 4X4? if you'd use that tranny you'd need a divorced t-case which is 2 more universal joints that could break.

there are trannys and tcases out of f150's that would work or an awd explorer. but that would involve a lot more wiring due to the awd case being comp controlled.

4.6L Ranger, September TOTM done by 281Ranger

It has been done. I remembered there was one that was the TOTM a few months back, the link is above. True he didn't use the 4.6L out of a Crown Vic, he used it out of a Mark VIII, but its the same drive line overall. It turned out quite well, he has a lot of pictures of how things went. He started off with a 1998 Ranger, and put the 4.6L in from a 1994. Everything seems quite nice. I was going to do that with my Ranger, I thought it would be a cool and mostly original project. It's not 4wd or awd, but its just showing the overall idea is still very possible. I'ed probably try to find a 4.6L F150 4x4 and take the engine and drive line out of that, and use the harness, computer and whatever else, from the F150.

Well he had originally said about using that tranny from the crown vic. that's why I asked about the whole 4X4 thing, your right he could use out of an f-150 or an explorer though.

i would go the f150 route though. that way you can get a manual case

Thanks for being honest lol. This is the deal with the starters and flywheels.
I had the first flywheel be replaced by a shop. It was Under warranty for one year. The new starter has a 3 year warranty. So I only paid for one flywheel and one starter. The starter is out of alignment and not engaging the flywheel correctly. Don't ask me why besides that i think the housing it bolts to is tweaked.

Yeah I realized there was a problem the first time it happened, but I don't care seeing as I have warranty's on everything. And nope there are no wrong parts.

I wondered that too....you would think that the only difference there would be the bellhousing as any is between a manual and auto. I wanted to put a 5.0 in out of an explorer into the 92 so figured the manual tranny from a bronco or f-150 would work with that motor but heard it wouldn't. So don't know if the same thing here applies or not.

i think you might need a body lift. but it depends on the tranny. a zf i think would fit with a bl.

Wouldn't the 4.6 out of a crown vic bolt up to a 4.6 manual trans out of a f150?

Yes it would, or a 4.6 stang.

and droping in a crown vic drivetrain in to a RBV would be easer then The MarkVII swap that was posted, the M-VIII is a DOHC wich is wider then the SOHC Crown vic motor.
