i want to know how hard it would be to put a 4.6 in a 94 ranger. I am also looking for a list of things that i would need to get and a list of what would have to be done. i am just getting off of deployment to affganistain :yahoo: and and i have a chunk of change in my bank waiting to be used :icon_bounceblue:

The main problem is the size, you can swap one but you are gonna have to make room for it. I know its been done many many times, but a 302 would be far easier and cheaper depending on how you approach it. Since you got a chunk of change, you could build one to be more performance oriented.

biggest thing is going to be steering. if you want power steering, you're going to have to make custom brackets and mount the power steering pump to the other side of the engine, or else it will mount right where your steering gear is. you're also going to have to make a new steering shaft, using a few ujoints to get it around the valve cover. you'll have to ditch a/c, possibly heat too, 4.6s are WIDE. Exhaust will be fun too, unless you want to stick with boring manifolds, even then it's going to be a tight fit.

The one on the show is a newer sla truck, the older ibeam trucks are even harder because of the steering, but watching those shows would be a good starting point.
