The question is has anyone attempted a 4.6 swap to a ranger?

I am actively considering a whole engine- trany swap into our 89 ranger. ..

If i do i'll have a nearly new 2.9 liter completed with headers and stainless exhaust with a new 5 speed for sale..

Like Johnboy said, several but the early ones are harder. Even the '98' and newer are not a dropin. Better be good at fabricating and wiring if you want to try.

From what I gather with a 1-3 generation truck it is more a process of putting the truck around the engine than putting the engine in the truck.

If they fit worth a darn I would have a 5.4 in mine in a heartbeat.

I love the 4.6.
But go drive a 4.6 Mustang before you spend the time to toss one in a Ranger.
Unless you plan to supercharge it, the SBF may be more fun.
But I drive a 4.6 every day, I do enjoy it.

Darn good engine, my brother has one in its F-150 (non PI even) and it is very snappy. They are just a very swap unfriendly package for a TTB/TIB truck.

I agree. I have a '97 Gt as my daily, but my Ranger will absolutely spank it.

Which 4.6l? There is a 16v, a 24v, and a 32v dohc.

I have yet to see a stock 16v 4.6l mustang that can spank my Lincoln 0-100 mph. not that I spank the mustangs either....... But I can keep up.

None of them are easy swap into anything...... If I was going to do one it would be a 32v intec.

That style of Mustang would be a 16v.

I agree. I am quite surprised at how well a 4.6 with 2**hp (conflicting numbers on actual HP) moves this behemoth around.
