4.6 2v swap in a 97 ranger

Well I’ve decided to was a 4.6 from a 04 GT into my ranger. Getting the engine and transmission for super cheap. I’ve tried reading around on a lot of the threads here, and I only have a couple concerns.

One is the motor mounts. Obviously if I really need to I could fab something up. But I would much rather have something that’s just bolt on. I know these engine came in a lot of cars, so an OEM motor mount is bound to work from somewhere.

Secondly would be PATS. I’m assuming there’s no mechanical way I could disable it, and that I’d have to take it somewhere to have it reprogrammed. Is that actually possible?

if anyone has any additional help, that would be fantastic.
 
You can have the Mustangs ecu programmed by a tuner to delete the PATS, I dunno what you plan to do for gauges but you'll also need to ground the starter relay to bypass the Pat's in the hec cluster.

Realistically though... getting around the PATS is going to the least of your problems. You've got alot of custom fab work ahead of you just getting that engine to fit. The 4.6 is effin huge compared to any stock ranger engine or even a 302. Your going to have to build a new steering system, remove or relocate the hvac system, make custom mounts, relocate the trans crossmember, custom driveshaft, crap tons of wiring etc. BTW I hope your getting the entire wiring harness, modules, and ecu from the mustang.

Well that’s good to know. As far as fabricating, I kinda expected that. I wouldn’t mind going with a 5.0, buuuut... I’m getting the engine for cheap. So with the deal I have worked out I’m getting the ecu, harness, 5 speed trans(I forget which one exactly. But I’m going to sell it and get a M5 from a f150 anyways), and the engine. It’s from a friends mustang, so sadly I can’t get the cluster too. Could I use an ECU from a different 4.6 to just bypass that? Afaik the CVPI doesn’t have a PATS system? Would it be easier to buy one of those?
 
Got it cheap isn't cheap when it takes an extra hundred hours of labor. Sell it and use the proceeds to buy something that fits. PI heads don't flow better than GT40Ps can, so there's no power advantage to a 2V 4.6L. GT40Ps can't flow as well as L31s do, making the L31 the most power potential for your dollar. They all cost the same at Pick-N-Pull.
 
Sell it and buy a 460. Would be roughly the same amount of work, yeild better results, and less (if you go EFI) or none (carbed) electronics.

We get it bro, you like Chevy engines, but a Chevy engine isn’t always the answer... Well, it seems to always be your answer.
