Need to swap out gears in my 91 has 33s now might go to 35s its my daily driver and wheeler. Has the 4.0 and looking to get better mpg and be able to wheel it and not worry too much about breaking what gear ratio should i got with? I was first thinking 4.10s but now thinking 4.56 any advice would be great.

i have 4.10's with 33's on it now...it does good until you put it in 5th gear.....you will probally do better though because i only have a 2.3.

4.56 regardless of engine.

4.56's if you're going 35's

4.56... If you were dead set on 35s then 4.88 would be ideal, but if your not sure 4.56 would be best to stick with. Even if later you decide to do the 35s you can do so and it wont be a problem.

With 33s, 4.56 will give you about the best MPG with your 4.0L. If you go to 35s, then 4.56 is going to hurt your power a bit, with no real change in MPG (4.88 is better for 35s).

Fastpakr, why did you say "regardless of engine"? 4.56 is gonna suck on something other than a 4.0L.

Yes, with a 2.3 or 3.0 4.88's would be more than a good idea.

I'm running 4.88's with a 4.0 and 33's, It's my daily driver...... lol.

I advise the 4.56's............ yes I can do really crazy things with that whole dumping the clutch thing....... and tow ridiculous trailers (which I do) but in hindsight, I should have gone 4.56's.

I'm daily driving with 4.56's and 37's and it's not an issue when empty.....crawlin or loaded down though is the reason I now have 5.13's sitting on my shelf however.

I loved the driveability of 4.56's and 35's when I had it setup that way.

Sorry, what I meant (and failed to write) was 'at least' 4.56's, regardless of engine. As in, don't go lower numerically just because you have a 4.0.

I have 5.13's and 38's and 4.0 and still get in the 20's gas mileage. If you think you will ever go bigger than 35's I would go 4.88 or 5.13.
