ok im sure its been asked before but i cant seem to find it anywhere so, I have a 1991 ford ranger 4x4 custom with the 4.0l EFi in it and its got the lifter tick and is their anyway to stop the ticking without changing the lifters because i dont want to spend $500 on just lifters so my question is, would a 94 4.0L able to plug into my old 91 wiring or did they make a diffrent motor in 94 other then the EFI?

the "lifter Tick" on a 4.0 isn't "lifter tick"

The engine doesn't need to come out of the chassis or for that matter further apart than having Both valve covers off
(and even then not both valve covers at the same time.)

The "tick" on a 4.0 is a matter of worn PUSHRODS and the pushrod sockets in the undersides of the rocker arms.

And it usually isn't all of them just a couple....

looking at the parts once they are off the engine anyone can tell which ones are "Bad" at a glance.

There are aftermarket "rebuilt rocker arms" that have a hardened insert in them to prevent
future failure but you'll still need to replace the pushrods.
