so as far as swapping a 4.0L into my '84 ranger, is there any especially sought after years or models i should look for? and i know its supposed to be a pretty simple swap from the 2.8 to the 4.0 but has anyone had any major problems with it? any help is appriciated!:icon_thumby:

first off your in for alot of work . the engine will bolt right in with the 4.0 motor mounts and rad ect . but...... the WHOLE wiring harrness both inside the cab and the under hood harness will have to be swaped over . and some other wiring work .the reason is your's and every 2.8 ranger ever made is a carbed vehicle . all 4.0s are port EFI . possible . but you might want to look into doing a carbed 5.0 swap instead...

4.0L Swap

I have a 1991 Ford Ranger Supercab 4x4 Automatic... With the 2.9L. How much work is it to drop a 4.0L in? I'd like to compare a STOCK 5.0, to a 4.0. Is it worth going the extra mile and spending over $1000 on the kit to drop a 5.0 in for maybe 50 more ft lbs', and less hp than the 4.0L? I can get a 4.0L for under $500... If I get one from a 2001+ model from a wrecked ranger. :dunno:
