4.0L Supercharger Question?

As my saga to find a new truck continues i may be buying my dads 2000 SOHC 4L ranger. I was reading that you can use a 89-93 T-Bird Supercoupe supercharger and put it on a 4L ranger motor. I'm assuming you can just put it on without having to overhaul the engine cause it came stock on the older T-birds? What would some pro's and cons be of putting this on a 2000 ranger be on this and how much HP gain would someone assume to gain? Would this be as simple as just bolting some things in, or does it get fairly in depth where a mechanic would have to do this? Any input would be helpfull and thanks ahead....
 
yea i dont think it just bolts right on, beleive you have to build a squirrel cage for it, not an expert on these but i wouldnt run much more than 6-7 psi to those stock engines, let alone on a stock tune.

(go turbo imo :P )
 
do you think turbo would be more economical? Does it take just as much if not more to install one?
 
Turbo is going to be a lot of custom fabrication, but probably make more power and torque for the same boost.

Normally a supercharger would require the same amount of custom fab work but that has already been figured out for you. I forget the guy's name, but he's from www.rangerpowersports.com, and posts here too, and he will sell you a kit to mount that supercharger on your 4.0 SOHC. I think he sells the kits on ebay for about $1500 and then you have to find a supercharger off of a tunderbird SC.

hmmmm that is def over what my budget would be...i'm starting to think maybe a chip would be my route..?? i don't even really need anything to gain HP cause it'll be good enough as is but if their was a fairly easy way to gain HP i would do it. The truck already has a K&N Cone with otherwise stock intake which is good enough, exhaust....btw i never realized that turbo or supercharger was that expensive.....i'm not quite sure any of that would be in my price range, or worth it especially without going through the engine and upgrading internals to do it the right way and get considerable gains.

HP is never easy or cheap. If it really increases power, and is reliable, it will cost money and there is no getting around it.
 
ya i guess your right. And i suppose spending close to 2,000 dollars on the supercharger and other equiptment to put it on then not going the extra mile to deck the engine out to supe it up its a total waste of time. how much would someone expect from a superchip? I've also heard you can reprogram the speedo if you get bigger tires also and read engine codes on top of giving a couple of extra HP's.
 
HP is never easy or cheap. If it really increases power, and is reliable, it will cost money and there is no getting around it.
I've thrown some dollars to some previous and future projects, I come up with about $100.00/HP to do it right.

On my 2.3t, doing it right, its been about $4000 to get from 88 hp to approx 350 hp. I will admit however, that it would be a lot more if I didn't do all the work (fab work included) and look for deals.
 
Damn...thats alot of cash, but thats a huge HP gain..also a little too much cash for me to afford. I wish i could afford it but with this economy and no steady work there would be no way.
