My plans are to get rid of my '92 2WD F150 Custom...really hate seeing that 300 Big Block Six go, but I can deal since my next plans are for a 4.0L 4x4 Ranger that I wanna make into one hell of a street truck so I can smoke all the guys around my town with turbo Mopars and HUGE block GM's. I know the basics of making anything faster and even some advanced things, but my main query is if anyone has any tips or things they've done...hell even some ideas anyone might have to make a speed truck on a budjet.

All I can say for now is...once I get my new ride...Built Ford Tough will be a household term on my island.

Thanks for Reading....Eros

Come to think of it....I might part out my F150, I suppose from what I've read that you can slap a 8.8 into a ranger. But mabye thats only a good option if your gonna swap a 302 or something into it...I don't know. I also thought about swaping my 300-6 into it but not with an e4OD auto...too much work, not enough satisfaction. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Your ranger already has an 8.8... Getting the power/torque you want is gonna require some form of boost and it wont be cheap!

When I see someone mention making good power on a budget there is only one word that comes to mind....SPRAY....

If you want information on nitrous setups go to the Forced Induction section. I posted a pretty detailed writeup on that not long ago in there.

dependin on what 4.0 your get, If its the 4.0ohv(-2000) or the 4.0sohc(2001+). The 4.0sohc runs 14.7-15.2 1/4 mile(dependin what model ranger you get) The 4.0ohv runs 16's-17's 1/4 mile.

the 4.0sohc is a great start to a fast street truck, it happens to have a good aftermarket, and now since the mustang comes with a 4.0sohc the market is growing, there is even a bolt on turbo kit(for the mustang) but with some fabin you can make it fit in there. With the 4.0sohc the sky is the limit! But the 4.0ohv has a limit

You're gonna need a lot of boost to beat a big block anything with a 4.0. That much boost is going to require forged internals, which will have to be mostly custom made. And then you'll probably just blow the block to pieces.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 4.0 and think it makes a great engine for what it was put in. But a 4.0 that started as a 2.6L in an economy car back in the 70's just ain't gonna cut it trying to make 500+ Horsepower.

Now that 300 you were talking about is a different story. That would probably be worth getting forged internals custom made for. Ah what am I saying, the stock internals on those things are stronger than anything the aftermarket has to offer!!!

Are you serious? It will be a cold day in hell if 4.0L is ever going to beat a big block chebbie. You have about 200 cubes to make up for. Whatever you spend on the 4.0 the BB guy could spend half as much and get more hp. You would need a nitrous fed turbo, and one heck of a bottom end to hold it not to mention a four link rear setup to get traction, and forget about the 8.8 ure gonna need a 9in. rear axle. You will need oh, about 15000 bucks to make it happen. 4.0s are good motors, but not for drag racing. Chebbies are cheap to build. I would drop 514 stroker 335 series engine in and 4 link it. You would comeout cheaper with more hp, like 700-800 not spraying. Dont forget about makeing the chassis stronger. A 454 chebbie can be made nasty for real cheap. If you want to play with the big boys you gotta pay. And pay alot.

It doesn't even need to be a chebbie big block. The 460 is also a great engine. My buddy has a 521 stroker in his F-350. It'll pull the front end 1' off the ground if you dump the clutch in 2nd gear!!!!! Yeah, put one of them in the ranger!

don't knock the turbo mopars either. with a little cash they are fast cars. i know a guy up by chicago that has a mini van that runs 11's consistantly in the 1/4 mile. there is also a couple 9 second neons running around. and i have seen time slips on their build pages.

the turbo mopars u want to watch out for that will bite u in the ass are the turbo Omni's, i know this b/c i had personally built one that ran low 10's, looks like the old cat ladys car, but faster then shit
