Hey guys. I have been doing some major work on my truck (head gaskets, intake gaskets, etc.) Anyways yesterday I went to put the valve covers back on and everything is fine except the one bolt (drivers side bottom right (when looking at the truck from the front, so the bolt closest to the battery)) does not want to start threading in! The threads look to be in a little bit of bad shape, but a good bolt in the same hole doesn't want to start threading in. Wtf? Me and my friend blew out the hole with air, but nothing seems to work. We are thinking something is maybe in there but it is hard to tell. I am hoping the hole is not stripped. I have had enough stripped and broken things to last a lifetime. My questions are:

1. Any ideas? We may end up taking the valve cover off and investigating
2. Its probably not a good idea to leave the one bolt out eh? The other seven bolts are fine
3. What size are those bolts? Threading and such. They are small but I am just wondering in case getting a new bolt may help the problem

Different bolt goes in and then I ended up losing the messed up bolt. So I guess I will try to find something that lines up and go from there. Didn't really need to post this thread I guess!

Stud?

Aren't some of those things actually a stud that holds spark plug wires, wiring or the unobtanium bracket. Maybe you are looking for the wrong thing?

Yeah there is one of those on each side. There is hundred of little clips and brackets and such haha. I am talking just the regular bolt. I will try to find something I can use that will thread into the hole

You might try a bolt that is a bit longer. The head is 10mm bot i am not sure of the thread count or pitch

Valve cover bolt holes on a 4.0?

The thread diameter is 6mm the pitch is 1.0mm

Commonly refered to as 6mmX1.0

Thanks! Yeah yesterday I talked to my mechanic buddy and he had basically the exact same bolt in his "small pile of random bolts" that he keeps for situations just like this. So...we are good to go!
