Hey all,
I have a '97 4.0 OHV automatic that I am doing a stock refresh on since the head gaskets were blown. I am looking to replace the camshaft as well since some of the lobes appear to have some defects. I found a NOS Ford cam on EBAY, jumped the gun a bought it then realized I may or may not have made a mistake. I've tried to decipher the OE part number but it seems there are several options for OE cams. F0TZ-6250-A is the cam I bought of EBAY but after ordering the cam I found in the 4.0L tech article section about the 4 different cams installed in these engines. So my question is for anyone who knows the OE cams, will the one I purchased work ok or should I keep looking?
Thanks in advance.

Looking at the list of cams in that article I don't think it is going to blow the engine up, but it will definitely not be the one that came in your truck originally.

I don't know what all changed from the F0TZ to the F3TZ though.

Thanks for the reply. My concern with the cam is if the timing has been changed around and maybe result in the engine to run improperly. Also, I had the heads checked for cracks at a machine shop (none found thankfully) and they resurfaced both heads .007. He didnt think I would need thicker head gaskets but I though I would ask on here as well. Has anyone else had their heads resurfaced and used stock thickness head gaskets?
Thanks!

You’re not building a race motor, so having the stock heads shaved down 7 thousands won’t even be noticeable. You’ll be ok.

As far as the cam goes, I didn’t look up the specs but the only time a cam changes timing is if you don’t like up the timing marks wether is be an OHV or OHC engine.

Hope this helps.
