I have a 1998 Ranger with a 4.0, when doing the intake this past weekend I noticed the previous owner buggered up the valve cover bolt holes on the lower intake manifold (bolt was broken off and missing, looks like they tried to drill it out)

I found a 93-94ish explorer in the junkyard that appears to have a 4.0L, will that lower intake work? Are there any differences year to year?

nope, you'll need to swap everything from your 98 intake onto it though.

Thanks, i picked up the intake today, only difference i can see is that on the 94 intake, there are colant passages at the ends of the intake where my 98 intake does not. The 98 lower intake gasket i have has rubber to block it off.

Will that be ok?

Should be, yes. They're the same block. Make sure to use the 93/94 Plenum though.
