I am in the process of a 4.0L engine swap and looking for headers. I am using a 1993 Explorer but am confused as to what headers would fit this model. I have found a Pacesetter and JBA brand but unsure what will fit the 1993 engine. The model years listed do not go back that far. What can I use for my swap? How do I know that they will fit?

The JBA headers for a ''95-00 4.0OHV will fit the engine
because a 4.0 OHV is a 4.0OHV.

You'd have an issue with an extra port for the EGR that you may or may
not have on a 93-94 4.0, but that itself isn't a big deal either.

What is a big deal is that the cat flange where the cat attaches to the
Y-pipe on '88-92 2.9's and 90-94 4.0's is not the same on a 1995-up

so the headers and their included Y-pipe (which you must use)
won't fit your catalytic converter.

If you decide to stick with your cast manifolds I have some good
news...the 2.9 Y-pipe bolts right up to the 4.0 exhaust manifolds.

JBA's are quality stuff.

Pacesetter are junk.

There is a difference in price for a reason.

I have headers on my 4.0, but they are the long discontinued Borla headers.

4.0L Engine Swap - Headers

Thanks for the detailed information.
When I was removing the LH exhaust maniford I noticed what may be the EGR sensor that is attached to the exhaust pipe under the connection. So it has at least one EGR sensor.
Relating to the Cat flange can a muffler shop make the an attachment conversion?

Ahhh... NO.

The EGR is a PIPE (3/4" diameter tube) that runs off the drivers side exhaust manifold

The "sensor" you are looking at is the HEGO (Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen) sensor.

a 1993 4.0 has TWO, one for each cylinder bank
