I came across an engine hoist to lift/raise the engine enough to change my oil pan gasket.

Question, what or where can I safely bolt the chain to (engine hoist) in order to lift/raise the engine?

Also, am I correct in thinking that I should only have to unbolt the motor mounts and slowly raise the motor? Is it easier or worth the trouble to separate the transmission from the motor?

Any help is appreciated!

It is worth the trouble to remove the engine completely.

If you should choose to not do that I would go get an engine lift plate from a parts store and remove the upper intake, and then bolt the plate down where the intake was. I have lifted that engine every which way possible and that was the one I liked the best.

If not removing the engine trans does need to be pulled back or removed to do the job right. Also engine needs to be lifted off of the motor Mounts Y-pipe will probably have to come down as well. All that is needed to make enough clearece to get oil pan out past the crossmember...

I would also consider doing motor Mounts, rear main seal, sleeve the crankshaft, replace clutch and turn/replace flywheel if a manual transmission, and input shaft seal on the transmission. Just my .02 cents
