Hey friends!

Went spelunking at the local pick & pull this afternoon, and thought I found a great score in an alternator from a 1992 Ranger.. only to realize (quickly) that the host had a botched 4.0 engine swap. The mounting brackets spun 180 degrees on the alternator. Is it even possible for this model to (Motorcraft GL8698RM) to fit in the 2.9l? I'm really needing more juice and have tapped out my budget. Thought i struck gold but now looking at it, wondering if I should just send it back.

Would love to hear any wisdom from y'all!

Do you have a V-belt or serpentine belt(flat)?

4.0l would only have the serpentine pulley and no adjuster bolt holes
1988 2.9l should be V-belt I think, but can be serpentine, but always had an adjuster bar to tighten the belt
So usually not interchangeable

From this image, no, the Motorcraft GL8698RM won't work on a 2.9l: https://www.ebay.com/p/169285967

I did the mod spoken of in this post. It still works great after a year.
