How compatible are the years? I have a bad 1991 4.0l that I put in my Bronco 2, and found a good price on a 1995 4.0l. Could I just drop in the 95 engine, or do I need the wiring and computer as well?
You can use the 1995 4.0l OHV in your 1991 Ranger you will need to change a few things
1991 has an oil pump drive at the top rear, 1995 will have a cam synchro tower with oil pump drive, swap yours into the 1995
1995 may have EGR system, 1991 won't unless you are in Calif, you can swap upper intake to delete it, or remove it and make a plate to cover the hole
Use your exhaust manifolds
The 1991 wiring should all match up to 1995 engine as should the fuel lines, if a sensor has a different connector just swap yours over
