I just looked at a 94 explorer with a 4.0 in it, i have a 90 supercab ranger with a 2.9, the explorer is automatic and has all the accessories that mine has, except i believe it has fog lights and i don't, but i want them, the question is, since everything looks to be in the same spot(coolant overflow, washer fluid box, cruise, ac setup), can i just pull the motor and harness and plug it in both spots on my 90 model and swap the computer? or do i have to splice wires? I have a 5 speed mazda tranny that I am leaving in mine. Just trying to do some research before I start something that I can't finish.

Get an Automatic 2.9L computer from an 2nd gen ranger with a 2.9L (89-92) and you should be golden.

later,
Dustin

2 more questions, didnt someone say that only the 91 and 92 explorers were direct drop in and plug in on my 90, and the explorers after 92 had to have several wires spliced. And if i use a 89 to 92 computer, wont the 94 injectors act up and not work right?:c-n:

And the topic should be 2.9 to 4.0, my bad

Could anybody tell me if the large round plug on the drivers side of the firewall will plug straight in or will I have to cut wires.

you sure the sploder is a 94?

those systems are totally different as the pdb is intergrated in the later and they are sefi....

you can stand alone it and its a bit easier to swap...

a 91 sploder to your 90 setup is plug and play on the eec end in all but a few cases i have done..even then it was only moving one pin in the fire plug.

yeah im sure its a 94, it says so in the door sticker. Under the hood of the exploder it looks just like my ranger as far as the layout, but i didnt want to buy this one if its gonna be a pita, because i drive my truck every day. Maybe ill just look for a 91 or 92 to swap with. but thanks for all the info.
