Every how to I have found says to use the 4.0 distribution box, but leave the original headlight harness. I have yet to see how someone mated the two. How do I go about doing this since the headlights are wired into fuse box? Should I just splice the headlight wiring into the new box where the original headlight wiring was?

I used both and they pretty much work seperately of each other. The B2 fusebox under the dash still runs the lights and the rest of the rig. The Explorer distribution box runs the engine and leaves all sorts of extra fused circuits for electric fans and lights. I got the manual out and layed the explorer harness out on the hood. I went one by one and removed all of the wires that did not need to be there. Basically the lights and A/C circuits. I used the B2 A/C and headlight harnesses.

So you have both fuse boxes under the hood?

Im sorry, I didnt see that yours was an 89. Mine is an 86 and has the original fuse box under the dash and the explorer fuse box under the hood.

I am only talking about the fuse box under the hood.
